Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television anchor for a journalist as well as a commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up living in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). The following year, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. Beginning in 1981, she began working for the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. She was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign reporter for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell participated on the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the show. She joined the panel in 1988's presidential debates, in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for outstanding achievement in the field of journalism. In 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering in the White House in 1981-1988 for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy stories including arms control, tax reforms to the budget and also the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of the President Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev.
